Role: Design Manager / Sr. Design Manager
Duration: 2016 – 2018

LinkedIn Messaging allows members to communicate with other LinkedIn members that they are connected to. On LinkedIn, members can only message their 1st-degree connections for free. If they aren’t connected, they have the option to send an InMail to another LinkedIn member.

I took over as the Lead Designer / Design Leader starting in 2016 and led the team through a number of key milestone experiences that makes LinkedIn Messaging’s experience today. The Messaging experience was driven by three key experience goals: ubiquitous, smart, and trustworthy. Each principle is important to enable the service to grow at the same time fulfill needs of our members.

Key highlights during my leadership tenure include launching Active Status, to help see when your connections are available; Messaging Overlay, to instantly start a conversation wherever on LinkedIn; Smart Replies, to quickly keep the conversations going; as well as providing design direction for more professional conversations (moving away from chat bubbles, and removing press enter to send).

Another product area under my leadership was unveiling a New LinkedIn Groups experience, creating a shared space to build your professional communities. We focused on creating welcoming, active and safe space with the goal to create a sense of belonging for professionals.
